Stonewashed, heavy linen and medium – what to choose?

Our offer includes, among others, a stonewashed linen tea towel, a heavy linen curtain and a prewashed linen tablecloth. These mysterious-sounding names describe the type of linen, and thus – its formula, weight and finish. To explain the terms appearing on our website – in the following post you will find a detailed explanation of the used and popular terminology. Thanks to this, you will know what to expect when the courier brings you a package with our linen products.

STONEWASHED LINEN

Stonewashed is a type of technique that softens the linen fiber. The name comes from a somewhat outdated method, which was based on massive stones. Today, mainly enzymes are used during the production.

Ultimately, this method changes the structure of the fabric, making it soft and stable. This means that linen tablecloths or linen curtains do not shrink when washed or ironed. What’s more, the stonewashed fabric acquires a unique, delicate texture that resembles natural and subtle waves. Thanks to this, linen products are extremely soft and delicate – perfect for comforting us before going to bed, decorating our living room, adding coziness to our dining room.

HEAVY OR MEDIUM?

We use the term heavy or medium very often – both in the case of curtains and tablecloths or linen bedding. The basic difference is, of course, the weight – in the case of heavy 285g m2, and in the case of medium 160g m2. Importantly, the higher weight of linen does not mean that the fabric becomes stiff, hard and rough to the touch. It is worth remembering that heavy products still remain soft and delicate, which is why they appear so often in romantic bedrooms or living rooms inspired by ethno interiors. Medium, due to the lower basis weight, delicacy and not so thick weave, appears in most of our products. The properties of the fabric make it more delicate and subtle after each washing and use.

True gray heavy linen curtains

The difference in finish and weaves is especially visible on our curtains. Models made of heavy linen are thicker, more fleshy, and therefore more covering. Ultimately, they let less light through, providing not only more privacy, but also excellent protection from the sun. Therefore, if someone is looking for an elegant and more expressive element for their interior, we often recommend choosing a higher basis weight, which fits perfectly with modern or loft interiors. We love when heavy linen is combined with a brick wall, raw wood or metal, which proves that linen accessories have become an extremely universal element of modern interiors.

The medium version is distinguished by airiness and subtlety, known from e.g. boho style. The translucent finish “softens” the light by allowing some of it to pass through. As a result, we get a slightly illuminated living room and a bedroom inspired by a country house. Shades such as pure white additionally brighten the interior, and true gray or charcoal combine light shading with the delicacy of a mist.

PREWASHED LINEN – ELEGANCE AND NATURALITY

Among our products you will also find the term “prewashed”, which refers to linen with a higher weight. Due to their durability and elegance, prewashed products are distinguished by austerity, expressiveness and fleshiness.

Less shrinkage and greater stiffness is ideal for creating, for example, linen napkins which become a perfect pad for our tableware. This naturalness of linen and the elegance that follows it perfectly blend in with glass, fresh flowers, crystal accessories and wicker. We can tell you that the products from this series are very eagerly chosen for the festive or wedding table – which only confirms that we love natural accents during important and momentous moments in our lives.
