Last year we introduced linen roman blinds, which are based on classic roman blinds with their formula. In their production, we use 100% linen, which impresses with its valuable properties. As a curiosity, we would like to tell you that the first project was built in ancient Rome when the inhabitants were looking for effective ways to protect themselves from the stubborn sun. Our mailbox often receives inquiries about differences in the roller shutters available on the market. So we decided to compare the materials used to show that the fabric is really important. Which curtains to choose?

ROMAN BLINDS AND CURTAINS – WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE?

In our blog, we often compared flax with other popular fibers. In today’s post, we want to focus on why linen blinds are the best choice for summer. As part of a brief summary – let’s remember what the three most popular fabrics differ. Which curtains to choose?

  • Cotton – very popular fibers obtained from the plant of the same name. Its biggest advantage is softness, versatility, and a relatively low price. For many years it has been used for the production of dressing materials – mainly due to its absorption properties.
  • Polyester is a type of polymers produced under artificial conditions, including the use of petroleum and ethylene glycol. It is a synthetic product that does not occur in nature. Its biggest advantage is the price, which manufacturers like to use.
  • Flax – natural fibers obtained from a valuable plant. Today there are almost 200 species of flax and, according to historical data, it is one of the oldest sources of fiber, characterized by hygroscopicity, tenderness, airiness, and exceptional strength.

SUN VS. THE FABRICS – WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Our line-up must be matched with. . . Sun rays. With them, almost every day, blinds come into contact, which finally protects us from the fickle weather.

Linen is one of the few fabrics that have natural lignin that has absorbent properties. Thanks to it, linen roller shutters protect against harmful UV radiation, which can lead to burns or damage to the bonds in the skin. In addition, flax is extremely durable, so it is not damaged or interrupted when exposed to high temperatures and permanent contact with rays.

Cotton, which is resistant to radiation, shows a high tendency to rot. Therefore, it must not be exposed to permanent contact with moisture. In addition, the fibers are often halved, so the products may lose their original shape after washing.

Polyester is synthetic as a material with low shrinkage (2%). That means he’s the only one in this combination who can’t handle the rays. The barrier thus generated restricts the natural heat regulation and air circulation, which warms the room temperature. Therefore, we have a feeling of “heavy air”, which is a source of headaches and discomfort. In addition – long sunlight is an easy way to damage the fibers and form discolorations that are unsightly and have a negative impact on the interior design.

ANTISEPTICITY VS.THE FABRICS

The septicity of textiles is the ability to attract dust and microbes. Because of this property, materials can be dangerous for allergy sufferers and children. In addition – it is very difficult to clean them effectively.

Polyester fibers tend to accumulate too many positive ions. This phenomenon occurs particularly during the heating season when we are looking for a way to heat our interiors additionally. As they accumulate, the tissue is electrified and thus attracts microbes and dust. This settles on, for example, roller shutters and then enters our respiratory system and causes discomfort in the respiratory system. Choosing the right material, you should carefully consider which curtains you choose.

ANTISEPTICITY VS.THE FABRICS

It is a myth that polyester is an extremely durable material. Its apparent strength is weakened by improper care, high temperatures, and constant contact with sunlight. While it does not lose shape or stretch, it can be very easy to tear or fade the paint, which is usually applied artificially, e. g. with chlorine.

Linen is considered to be one of the most resistant materials on the market. It is estimated that it performs much better in this element than wool or cotton. This means that the fibers are not distorted by frequent washing, sunlight, moisture, ironing, and frequent use. In addition – the more often it is cared for, the more pleasant and delicate it becomes in its formula. Thanks to this longevity, you are guaranteed that the roman blinds will not lose their shape and withstand gusts of wind, rain, and stubborn, burning rays.
