HOW TO MEASURE BODY CIRCUMFERENCES? GENERAL RULES

Step 1: Stand straight and natural – do not bend to either side.

Step 2: Gently spread your feet.

Step 3: Measure each circumference twice, taking the average from it.

Step 4: Lay the centimeter flat, making sure it lies flat along its entire length.

Step 5: Draw a table on the sheet, where you will put: shoulder circumference, chest circumference, waist circumference, shoulder length, hip circumference, leg length and thigh circumference.

HOW TO MEASURE THE PERIMETER OF THE UPPER BODY?

When measuring the circumferences for a shirt, blouse or dress, it is extremely important to know several dimensions. Do it carefully – especially if the fibers of the chosen creation are not very stretchy. When two measurements are inconsistent – repeat the whole operation until you get two, the same parameters.

  • Measuring the circumference of the shoulders: put your hands against your body, without putting them apart. Put one end of a centimeter on one shoulder, and the other on the other. Guide the measure along the clavicles, making sure it is straight along its entire length. Multiply the obtained parameter twice to get the circuit result. So if you get a result of 32 cm – the circumference will be 64 cm.
  • Measuring your chest circumference: Measure the circumference in the soft bra you choose every day. Stand upright, gently leaning forward. Lay out a centimeter across the width, making sure you measure the widest point.
  • Waist circumference measurement: Measure the circumference at the narrowest point of the torso, i. e. below the chest. Apply a centimeter around the circumference, making sure it fits tightly to the body. Add 1-2 cm to the result obtained.
  • Measuring shoulder length: Measure the length from the wrist to the end of the shoulder. The centimeter must fit tightly to the body along its entire length. So make sure it is tight, does not curl and lies along the arm.

HOW TO MEASURE THE PERIMETER OF THE LOWER BODY?

If you are planning to buy trousers, skirt or maxi dress – it is also worth measuring the lower body. As with upper measurements, do this patiently and carefully, measuring each circumference at least twice.

  • Measuring the circumference of the hips: measure at the widest point, making sure the centimeter is straight on the entire circumference. Do not pull in your stomach or lean forward – try to maintain a natural body position.
  • Measuring the circumference of the thigh: Stand straight, slightly crotch. Measure the circumference of about 10-15 cm from the knee, applying strictly a centimeter. Make sure you don’t squeeze your skin.
  • Measuring leg length: you may need help getting this parameter. Place a centimeter on your ankle and guide it along the outside of your leg. Get the result by stopping the measure at the height of the hips.

MEASURING BODY CIRCUMFERENCES – WHAT NOT TO DO?

When measuring circuits, be sure to do it patiently and calmly. Improper reading of centimeters can cause a lot of frustration and disappointment during the first fitting of ordered clothes. Additionally, remember to:

  • do not suck in your stomach,
  • do not bend the body in an unnatural way,
  • do not measure the circuits immediately after eating,
  • do not rush and do not subtract or add centimeters to the so-called tab.
