Do linen curtains lower the temperature at home?

Do the windows of your apartment face north? You live in the attic? Every day you wake up by the sun’s rays, and inside your living room there are almost tropical conditions? We know it – after all, summer in Poland is getting warmer, and climate change is causing concern not only in the eyes of ecologists. With this in mind, we have prepared a new blog post, in which we share our proven techniques for natural and quick lowering of the temperature at home. We will also answer one of the most frequently asked questions: Do linen curtains lower the temperature in the house?

LINEN CURTAINS VS. THE SUN. DO LINEN CURTAINS LOWER THE TEMPERATURE AT HOME?

Linen curtains and sheer linen curtains have some “magical” abilities that are worth appreciating, especially during the very hot months. We are talking about:

  • Ability to block sunlight. Linen curtains act as a natural UV filter that reduces the amount of sunlight, heat and radiation entering the interior. These fibers “absorb” the rays, so the temperature inside the house is lower.
  • Air permeability. Everyone who wore a polyester shirt on a hot day has seen how important this ability is. Artificial fibers are so “tight” that they prevent free circulation, which makes the interior look like a closed box. The “home sauna” thus created increases the risk of microbes and mould – which is why it is so important that the curtains bring in fresh, oxygen-filled air.
  • Thermal insulation. Linen curtains act like an insulating layer. This means that they cool in summer, blocking the inflow of heat from the outside, and in winter, they warm up, blocking the inflow of cold air.
  • Moisture absorption. Flax has the ability to absorb water, so the interior does not resemble a tropical jungle.

HOW TO LOWER THE TEMPERATURE IN YOUR HOUSE? OUR TIPS

Of course, the most effective and fastest way to lower the temperature in the house is to install an air conditioner or put a fan in the middle of the bedroom. However, these methods are not environmentally friendly and can tear your wallet. Therefore, we will reveal a few other, proven by us, natural ways that will bring a bit of coolness to the heated walls.

  • Open the windows at night. If the temperature outside is lower than inside, remember to. . . open the windows at night. Fresh air not only cools the interior, but also makes it easier to fall asleep, oxygenates and pleasant evening relaxation.
  • Avoid additional heat sources. We are talking about computers, cookers and stoves that emit heat and heat the interior.
  • Hang damp towels (preferably from linen, which will further reduce the risk of bacteria multiplying). This simple procedure uses the mechanisms we know from cold compresses used during fever.
  • Mist plants with water or use air humidifiers. Plants have the ability to cool through the process of transpiration. Sprinkling them with drops of cool water intensifies this effect, causing the internal temperature to gradually decrease.
  • Make a draft. If the windows in your apartment face different directions of the world, open them in such a way that the wind passes through the center of the living room or bedroom. The cross method is one of the most effective – so it’s no wonder our grandmothers know it too!

Of course, don’t forget to wear linen clothes also inside the house. Your skin deserves softness, breathability, and naturalness 24 hours a day!
