THE HISTORY OF GRANDPARENT’S DAY

Grandmother’s Day and Grandfather’s Day were first established in Poland in 1964 and are celebrated on January 21st and 22nd. These holidays were introduced by the National Women’s Council, making them permanent by marking these events on the calendar.

In other countries, such as the United States, there is National Grandparents Day, which is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labour Day. It is officially recognised to have originated in 1970 when Marian McQuade, a West Virginia resident, mounted a campaign to establish a day dedicated to grandparents.
