The lavender scent of washing powder, fresh air filling the bedroom and a cup of hot cocoa just before bedtime – all these things make our winter evenings enjoyable, relaxing and soothing after a hard day. However, we often forget that a vital factor for our comfort and health is… bedding, which should be natural not only on the outside but also on the inside. With this in mind, at so linen!, we have introduced a novelty – duvets with hemp fleece filling that will allow you to immerse yourself (literally!) in 100% nature!

WHAT TYPE OF DUVET FILLING? NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC

Synthetic fillings, such as silicone fibre, are often chosen because of low production costs. Manufacturers, using polymers such as polyester, give the duvet a characteristic, enticing fluffiness. Unfortunately, this softness is sometimes deceptive – ultimately, the inside is filled with plastic, which has a terribly negative impact on both us and the environment. The synthetic fibre has no thermoregulatory, hygroscopic or antiseptic properties. In the end, it contributes to the development of skin and respiratory allergies.

Hemp fibre offers significantly more health and environmental benefits. It is an ecological and biodegradable alternative that exhibits unique properties. Furthermore, the natural filling is more durable and provides better air circulation, making it excellent for keeping warm in winter and pleasantly cool in summer.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT HEMP FIBRE

Hemp fibre comes from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa), which is cultivated almost all over the world. This cultivation is ecological and sustainable, as the plants require few pesticides and negligible amounts of water. It is estimated that hemp needs only around 500-700 mm of rainfall per year. In comparison to cotton that needs as much as 2000-7000 mm of water per year, depending on the region and growing conditions.

Hemp fibres, extracted mainly from the stalks of the plant, are processed into non-woven fabric, which is used in textiles. We could not be indifferent, so appreciating its many benefits, we decided to introduce it to the so linen! family. Like all our fibres – this one is also free of pesticides, chlorophenols, formaldehyde, allergenic dyes, banned azo dyes and extractable heavy metals.

WHY IS NATURAL DUVET FILLING BETTER

Natural duvet fillings outperform synthetic materials in many ways. Their greatest advantage is thermoregulation – the ability to regulate and maintain the natural temperature of the body, regardless of external conditions. Alongside this is anti-allergenicity – unlike feathers, hemp has antimicrobial and antifungal properties, thus minimising the production of microorganisms and pathogens that can affect your family’s health and well. Moreover, it also possesses hygroscopic and antiseptic properties, making it be much safer for allergy sufferers and toddlers.
