White is a symbol of purity, innocence, subtlety. We love it for its versatility, for its perfect combination with other colours, for the romance and freshness it brings to our interiors. White linen bedding can add a beautiful white accent to any interior.
No wonder then, that it is the linen curtains, white linen sheets or tablecloths in pure white shade that are so popular decorating minimalist bedrooms, modern living rooms or classic dining rooms.
However, white can be troublesome – especially if you don’t know how to take care of it. This problem also applies to linen bedding, which with the appropriate measures and care can serve us for many years.
HOW TO WASH WHITE LINEN BEDDING?
White linen bedding, while seeming cumbersome and difficult to care for, is ultimately no different than other sets available. Of course, the basis for preserving beautiful whiteness is prevention, which means avoiding situations where permanent staining can occur. Anyone who loves to sleep in the company of four-legged friends and anyone who is in the habit of drinking coffee in bed has learned about tough stains.
Fortunately, linen is a graceful material, which with proper care reciprocates us with durability and resistance. If you follow a few basic rules you will get a fabric that will wrap you up for sleeping in winter and cool you down when the temperature outside the window is exceptionally high. We often talk about the advantages of linen on our instagram.
So when washing a white sheet or a white linen pillowcase, remember to avoid fabrics with different colors. So do not combine them with a colorful cotton sweatshirt or polyester dress – used, artificial dyes tend to discolor, which can obviously affect snow white. To minimize the risk of coloring – roll the pillowcase inside out, and then choose the most gentle washing cycle. It is recommended that linen fabrics – regardless of color – be washed at about 30-40 °C.
Choose the maximum natural cleaning products, making sure the composition is safe and free of invasive ingredients. Then your white linen bedding will look beautiful.
HOW TO DRY WHITE LINEN?
After washing your white bedding, you can dry it in two ways. Whichever method you choose, remember not to wring out the wet fabric – handle it as gently as possible while respecting its properties.
We recommend the first method especially in the summer – when the sun is rising and you feel a crisp, gentle breeze. After washing, hang the still damp bedding on the balcony string. Don’t be afraid of the sun’s rays – linen is UV resistant. The second method involves drum drying, which is particularly popular with stonewashed flax. However, remember to choose your drying program extremely carefully, making sure that the number of rotations will not shorten the life of your linen fibers.
HOW TO CARE FOR WHITE LINEN BEDDING?
It is a very common theory that in order to bleach bedding, it is best to use all kinds of bleach. Quite radically, however, we advise you to lay off the invasive products, replacing them with soaps, classic powders and liquids of natural composition. Gentleness and treating the fabric with sensitivity will give a much better result than caustic chemicals.
To give linen its former whiteness, use household ingredients that exhibit anti-static properties. Among the most popular ones is a mixture of vinegar and water. The recipe for this old-fashioned concoction is simple: put 4 tablespoons of table salt or half a cup of vinegar in water, soak white fabrics for a few minutes (or hours if the discoloration is very persistent), then rinse the fabric and let it dry freely. Done!
