Tree Day – why choose cardboard over plastic? Organic linen products

Our planet is home to millions of species of flora and fauna. Its greatest, life-giving sources are water and trees, which provide shade in summer, supply oxygen and are the primary food for herbivorous animals.

To celebrate and emphasize how important trees are in our environment, the so-called Tree Day was put on the calendar. Celebrated in October, the holiday is associated with an international action of planting trees, in which countries from all over the world participate. The main objective of the action is to increase environmental awareness, but also – to support the planet whose resources we regularly use.

To celebrate this day, we have prepared a special post in which we will draw attention to the growing problem of deforestation, emphasizing that in so linen! we take care of ecology at every stage of production while creating our eco linen products.

TREES VS. THE WORLD

Today we can find more than 3 trillion trees in the world. This means that there are more than 400 specimens per person on Earth, providing us with shade, shelter, and fresh air. While these figures seem impressive, at the end of the day the numbers are not positive. Scientists estimate that since the beginning of our civilization, the number of trees has been reduced by more than 46%. What is more – more than 40% of all specimens grow in tropical areas, which means that in the rest of the world we can talk about a shortage.

It is estimated that a natural forest the size of 30 football fields disappears every few minutes. Along with these, tropical forests are being cut down, which are considered an extremely important pillar in the global ecosystem. We have that concerning situation in mind while we create our eco linen products.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TREES IN OUR LIVES

Have you ever wondered what trees actually give us? What do we owe them? That is why it is so important to stop their indiscriminate felling?

Trees are an extremely important part of the photosynthesis process, becoming the most efficient source of oxygen. It is thanks to them that in our atmosphere carbon dioxide is exchanged for oxygen – an essential component of life for humans and all other inhabitants of the planet.

One hectare of deciduous forest alone produces more than 700 kg of oxygen, meeting the oxygen demand of more than 2500 people. Just 1 tree can provide enough oxygen for 10 people – and for a whole, 12 months!

In addition to consuming CO2, trees mitigate the greenhouse effect, stabilize the climate, and provide habitat for thousands of animals and other plant species. Thus, in a nutshell, we can mention that the presence of trees is fundamental for the proper development of the environment. An environment from which we regularly draw resources.

HOW WE CAN TAKE CARE OF TREES

Fortunately, the fate of trees – to a large extent – lies in our hands. Even the simplest and most inconspicuous decisions have an impact on the state of our environment. If each of us made even one small change from the list below – our planet would get an invaluable boost. In so linen! we make many such decisions by creating eco linen products for you.

  • trim trees in your garden – proper care reduces the risk of breakage, guaranteeing your plants a long life,
  • support mass tree planting actions – every year in Poland, as part of volunteer activities, a mass tree planting takes place. See if there is a similar event in your town and submit your candidature (usually during the Tree Day),
  • support businesses and local companies that care about the planet in their production without straining its resources – informed consumer decisions that don’t support mass industry are key to protecting the environment,
  • remember to recycle – paper, cardboard and cardboard packaging should be disposed of in a dedicated blue container. It allows used paper to be recycled, giving it a second life (and thus reducing the cutting down of trees for new packaging and shipments),
  • avoid plastic – despite appearances, paper packaging is more environmentally friendly than plastic, which has a negative impact on water, soil, and air.

In so linen! we take care of our planet by appreciating the value of the green trees around us. Thats why we ship every order from linen scrunchies to linen bedding in paper tissue and cardboard packaging. The whole is tied with a fabric string and the production information is printed on ecological paper. So ultimately our shipments are 100% recyclable.
