Linen recommended for allergy sufferers

Did you know that linen products have antiallergic properties? This means that – unlike polyester or elastane – they do not contribute to the development of Allergy to fabrics and thus support the treatment of e. g. atopic skin. Therefore, linen towels or linen bedding are often recommended for children (including newborns) and patients exposed to the formation of decubitus caused by local tissue necrosis. After many questions and messages, we decided to bring the anti-allergic linen properties closer and thus highlight the differences to other popular textiles.

ALLERGY TO FABRICS

The skin is an extremely sensitive protective layer that absorbs the external factors that reach and touch our bodies every day. Among the thousands of fibers available, the so-called synthetics are particularly allergic, unfortunately, these are the main fabrics available on the market.

In case of major skin problems and allergy to fabrics, an allergic reaction can be extremely dangerous, including shortness of breath, tissue changes, and inflammation requiring pharmacological intervention. Despite this risk, many manufacturers still use artificial and synthetic materials and dye them with harmful chemicals. In extreme cases, allergies to nickel and rigid, sewn-in labels can also occur, irritating the most sensitive skin. The problem is bigger than we initially suspect, especially if we are dealing with contact allergy.

What is important, textiles can also trigger allergies in the respiratory tract. If the tissue has static properties (which results in an accumulation of electrostatic charges), it attracts dust floating in the air, increasing the risk of breathlessness or dry cough.

In the event of such major health problems, it is recommended to choose only natural textiles whose decoloration and sourcing comply with the most important environmental rules.

WHY SHOULD ALLERGY SUFFERERS CHOOSE LINEN?

Linen is a fabric that is extracted from the natural environment. This means that if we don’t find the addition of synthetics (the manufacturers add them to reduce production costs), it becomes the healthiest and safest formula. Natural textiles such as linen do not harm sensitive skin and ensure good air circulation. This means that linen towels or linen bedding do not form an artificial coating on the skin, which in turn allows regular moisture transport. This prevents the collection of water, which very often irritates, hinders heat regulation, and thus contributes to the proliferation of bacteria that fuel allergic reactions. This is especially the case with polyester products, which form a barrier and intensify the sweating of the skin not only in summer but also in winter.

In so linen! we use ecological, biodegradable, and safely dyed linen. The fabric surprises with freshness, non-intrusive fragrance, and 100% natural composition. All this is thanks to the fabric of leading European manufacturers and the absence of environmentally harmful substances such as pesticides, allergy-causing dyes, azo dyes, and heavy metals.
