Is linen stiff and scratchy?

jak czyścić len

We have already written about linen myths on our blog. We weren’t planning on bringing this up again, but recently comments and theories have come to our attention that linen is a stiff and scratchy fabric. The question began to arise, “Is linen stiff and scratchy?” We couldn’t get past those words, especially since this topic is a bit more complex and requires a (largely) unequivocal rebuttal.

Products from so linen! are living proof that soft flax exists. So why the opinion that fibers scratch our skin? What makes the fabric wrap and perfectly care for the most demanding and sensitive skin?

IS LINEN STIFF AND SCRATCHY?

Let’s start with the basics: the formula and finish of linen is influenced by. . really a huge number of factors. So if linen is stiff and uncomfortable for our skin – most likely the culprit is not the plant used, but the way of production and the actions of the manufacturer.

The key to success is the composition and the softening process, which dramatically changes the formula of, for example, linen bedding. Whats more linen isgratefulfor frequent use and trust shown, making it softer with every use and every wash.

COMPOSITION MATTERS

Nowadays we divide materials into three groups: natural, synthetic and artificial. Linen clearly belongs to the first group, exhibiting biodegradability, bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties. Having these features in mind, we have to remember that linen does not have that characteristic “slipperiness”, which can be found in synthetic materials – e. g. polyester or lycra. So if you’ve come into contact with harmful, petroleum-based materials before, the actual linen fabric may have a different, slightly harsher texture.

Whats more very often e. g. linen bedding is not as delicate as we originally assumed, because in the composition smuggled . . admixture of other fibers that significantly changed the formula and finish.

PROPER CARE

We have already written on our blog how to properly care for linen fabrics. As a reminder, lets review some of the most important rules:

  • wash linen fabrics at maximum 40 degrees Celsius,
  • avoid spinning and tumble drying – it is much safer to dry naturally, e. g. on a string on your balcony,
  • avoid detergents and harsh laundry products with a lot of chemicals.

We know from experience that an excess of detergent is the main cause of fabric stiffening – the remaining residue surrounds the fibres, making the material less pleasant. Therefore, when washing linen products use natural cosmetics, which not only safely care for the fabric, but also do not have a negative impact on our environment.

SOFTENING PROCESS

Linen in so linen! amazes with its delicacy, streamlined formula and lightness. Our linen bedding soothes you to sleep, curtains hang freely from the corner of the windows, and towels wrap sensitive, allergic skin. The key to success is the softening process, which is called “stonewashing”. This method was traditionally done with stones that were thrown together with the fabric into the drum of the washing machine. Of course, today’s methods are much more modern and efficient, but the custom of softening remained until modern times. If you want to convince yourself of this softness, look for products in our offer, described as “stonewashed”.
