Not so long ago, buckwheat pillow joined the product family at so linen! You will find them in pillows category so that from now on you can only wrap yourself in natural raw materials that guarantee you a restful and healthy sleep. Why is the pillow filling so important and is a natural interior really “healthy”?

POLYESTER PILLOW FILLING

Which pillow padding do you find most often in popular hypermarkets? Usually many cheap pillows are filled with artificial materials. The most popular is the so-called polyester fiber, which at first glance looks like cotton wool or very light feathers. In reality, however, they are synthetic fibers with a polymer structure. Their production is completely artificial – they are produced largely by polycondensation of dicarboxylic acids with polyhydroxy alcohols (usually terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol). These fibers have a smooth, slightly slippery surface and are easy to cut, so they can be “stuffed” into the pillowcases.

The cushion padding made of polyester has a very low water absorption capacity, is easy to dye, and is quick to deform. Thus, the cushion quickly loses its original shape, and the center tightens and knots, which leads to unevenness. In addition, microbes and bacteria that love humidity and high temperatures can easily accumulate in the artificial environment. Since polyester does not dissipate moisture and has no hygroscopic properties, mites like to multiply inside them and contribute to allergies, discomfort, and headaches.

BUCKWHEAT – A PERFECT FILLING FOR YOUR PILLOW!

Fortunately, consumer awareness is growing and polyester fibres are being replaced by nature. An ideal representative of this group is buckwheat, which is an excellent filling for pillows, seat cushions or mattresses. It is a completely hypoallergenic material that has tannins compounds that have anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, the natural and dry environment blocks the growth of bacteria, fungi, and microorganisms. So you are guaranteed a safe sleep without the risk of skin allergies. Therefore, buckwheat pillows are recommended to all who need to (and want to!) avoid sensitizing microbes.

Buckwheat that adapts to the body – especially the neck – minimises the risk of migraine, back pain, snoring and insomnia. In addition, this raw material does not heat up, which provides a lot of comfort on hot summer nights – and perfectly absorbs moisture so you don’t wake up bathed in sweat.

WHAT PILLOW FILLING…?

Have you ever woken up with a stuffed nose? Do you wake up at night for no reason? How often do you feel discomfort or pain in your neck or lumbar spine when you get up?

If you are familiar with all these situations, you may sleep on pillows filled with synthetic cartridges. It is not for nothing that doctors and rehabilitates recommend choosing natural fabrics and fillings that guarantee comfort, health, and well-being.

So, which pillow is the healthiest? One that adapts to the preferred sleeping position and does not press on the cervical spine. This is particularly important for people who suffer from migraine or have a sedentary lifestyle.

In addition – different filling types, are characterized by a different degree of softness, elasticity, and also the ability to absorb moisture. Finally, the cushion should not be too soft and the inside of the cushion should not “ball” and collapse. While polyester is an inexpensive and easy-to-manufacture material, it has the lowest hygroscopicity and heat regulation. It is important that artificial materials retain their properties for a shorter period and therefore need to be replaced more frequently. Therefore, it is important to choose a durable, natural filling that reduces the risk of allergies, pain, and sleepless nights.
